Character
City, flat, riverine

From Greenwich Park past Cutty Sark, Tower Bridge and the Embankment to The Mall — since 1981, a joyful people's race.

Because the streets themselves have carried footsteps for centuries — you are joining a very long relay, not starting a new one.

The Thames does the pacing; keep the crown of the head light and let the crowd sound wash rather than lift.

Race Day

Practical & atmospheric notes

Kind shoulder-season conditions — mild mornings, arm-sleeves off by kilometre eight for most runners.

A Major start line: elite corrals, live broadcast helicopters overhead, a hundred thousand hearts syncing. Arrive early, breathe long, let the noise be weather rather than pressure.

World-class crowd support — dense from start to finish, with famous cheer corners that will lift you when the legs won't.

Water sections between km 18 and km 24 thin the crowd — breathe long, let the current pace you.

Sealed city tarmac — closed to traffic on race day

Rolling road profile — handcycles handle it with pacing help. Suitable for sturdy strollers on the flatter first and last thirds; expect a couple of longer gradients in the middle.
